What are We About?

Edmonds Heights K-12 was created in 1996 for families who prefer to individualize the education of their children with parents as primary educators. At Edmonds Heights, all our resources are deployed to this end and honoring the educational philosophy of each family.

We provide technical support and advocacy, and are a resource for helping parents create unique, authentic and relevant learning experiences for their students that meet the state’s legal requirements. We believe in supporting our families with an infinite

number of possibilities for a student’s individualized learning!

Each student has a unique Written Student Learning Plan that is designed collaboratively with parents, students, certificated teachers and support staff. The plan can be a reflection of the student’s interests, learning style, weaknesses and/or strengths. Evaluated monthly, the WSLP articulates the non-secular objectives and activities that each student’s course of study will entail.

The full time student WSLP describes 28 or 30 estimated hours engaged in a learning activity that falls essentially into four categories:

HomeLearning- this is curriculum delivered by the parents either at home or in whatever venue deemed appropriate. The curriculum materials include everything from museums to textbooks to online curriculum or materials. Much of the resources can be found at Edmonds Heights,

and new families learn about them at our Getting Started program.

Co-ops- Families work together to deliver home learning. They can have “closed” co-ops for their chosen group of families, or can open them to others. Families can work with the registrar to find space on campus, but many families do coops at home.

Workshop Instructors- these are teachers who have a professional interest and passion in a particular area and can offer classes to our community for a fee. The fees are paid out of an school allocation called a Family Budget  that is generally $500 annually. Workshops are considered a resource for Home Learning in the WSLP. Our workshops include Musical Theatre, Photography, Science, Cooking, and Drama, Music, and much more. Workshops generally meet 1 or 2 days a week for an hour.

Certificated Teachers- We have an outstanding teaching staff who deliver the core curriculum and electives K-12. We offer 4 foreign languages, Science, Math, English/Language Arts, Art, etc. Many of our classes are integrated across disciplines, and generally meet 2 days a week

for an hour, and there is an Independent Home Learning Component for high school students to achieve a full high school credit.
