Safety Planning

Safety Planning at Edmonds Heights K-12

The safety and security of our students, families and staff of is critically important. We want to responsibly convey to our community our plans and practices in the event of an emergency situation. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the office.

We have many variables on our campus that make planning a different challenge than in a normal place of business or public school.

  • There are 7 or more programs on Woodway Campus

  • We have multiple egresses to and from campus and multiple entrances into buildings

  • There are many adults who work, volunteer or parent here

  • Families in our program do not have consistent or simultaneous schedules, and people come and go all day long

In order to have the flexibility we need to plan for emergencies, we have adopted the National Incident Response System, or NIMS. This nationwide system allows us to respond to a variety of situations and for stakeholders to take on different roles. The plan interfaces with First Responders such as Police or EMS. See a link to our Woodway Campus Plan here.

ALICE

ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate) is an active response protocol for the event of a violent intruder on campus. It replaces the “lockdown only” procedures that were past practice for schools and public buildings. The protocols are based on research of many violent intruder situations of the past two decades. We offer periodic trainings in the protocol for staff and parents. Students also receive age appropriate training that coincides with drills.

Drills

We are mandated by state law to conduct monthly drills for fire evacuation, earthquake, intruder, and other safety concerns. Some of these drills are announced, but many are not (by law).

Please let the office know if you or your child needs special consideration during drills, such as being away from fire alarms, or announcements.
