Meet the Principal

Kathleen Hodges

Kathleen Hodges

I have lived in this area since I was ten-years-old when my father concluded his military career in this area and retired.  I graduated from Meadowdale High School, and then went on to earn a BA in Economics and History from the University of Washington.  I returned to school twenty years later to earn my teaching credentials and then my principal certification from Western Washington University.

I am married and have two grown sons, Patrick and Glen. My husband Phil is a retired paraeducator and is also an assistant track and cross country coach in the Edmond School District. Patrick (the redhead) is a third grade teacher at Cedar Way Elementary. Glen recently relocated to Los Angeles to spread his wings and establish his career.

My philosophy on public education isn’t all that grand or inspirational, but it is informed by experience as a public school educator and the parent of two grown children who were educated in the Edmonds School District. Families are the first educators for their children; schools and students thrive when there is a strong parent partnership. I believe in nurturing well-rounded, civic-minded, critical-thinking students who have ample access to all content strands - arts, science, math, literacy, and social studies.  I also believe that every child deserves to know what they are passionate about because it’s that passion that will see them through rough patches in life.  Wrapping around all of this is a deep commitment to equitable access and practices for all students.  When I work with staff and families I do so through an equity lens of intentional planning in all areas in order to provide access, inclusion, and opportunity so that all students and families feel and know that they belong.

I am excited to serve the Edmonds Heights community.  I believe that my role as school leader is to steward programs and work alongside staff and families so that the school can grow and thrive.  As a leader, I am collaborative, collegial, and transparent. I hold high expectations for myself, colleagues, and community because it’s our job to do all that we can so that the children who are placed into our care will thrive and grow into their best and fullest selves possible.
